What is a Global Mission Congregation?
Rock Spring adopted the identity of a Global Mission Congregation in 2012, responding to the call from the UCC and Disciples of Christ denominations by entering a covenant with Global Ministries. A Task Force worked for almost two years, drawing extensively on resources from Global Ministries. We considered many options, eventually narrowing our search to three regions where our own Central Atlantic Conference has partnerships: the Middle East, southern Africa, and Colombia.
In October 2012, on the recommendation of the Task Force, the congregation decided to become a global mission congregation, with a special focus on the Middle East. This decision emphasized partnership as a key concept in our engagement. Shortly thereafter, we extended “An Invitation to Partnership” which, with the help of the leadership of Global Ministries, quickly led to the beginning of the partnership with the Church of the Redeemer in Jerusalem.
Our focus may be on Jerusalem, but Rock Spring also supports the UCC’s wider ministries through Our Church’s Wider Mission, and the UCC/Disciples Global Ministries. In particular, we continue to share in the active interest in partnerships maintained by the UCC Central Atlantic Conference (CAC).
