Visiting for the first time?
Please feel free to contact Ashley Martinage, the Director of Faith Formation, if you have any questions or if you would like to arrange a time to familiarize yourself with our buildings before coming to worship for the first time. On Sunday morning, feel free to ask an Usher or Greeter to introduce you to her before the worship service.
Infants and Toddlers
Child care for infants and toddlers is provided by trained professionals on Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Our well-equipped nursery is located in Room 104 on the lower floor of the Hunter Education Building. We utilize a parent pager system, so you can be reached if necessary. Beginning at age 3, children are welcome to transition from the nursery to the Preschool class.
Preschool through Fifth Grade
We offer Sunday School during our 11:00 a.m. service during the school year, and during our 10:00 a.m. service in the summer.
Children begin worship in the Sanctuary with their families. Following the “Time with Children," they exit the Sanctuary through the front transept door closest to the piano and go to their classes in the Hunter Building, which is connected to the Sanctuary. Rooms in the 100 series are on the 1st floor; those in the 200 series are on the 2nd floor. Children may be met in their classrooms following the service.
Rock Spring uses the Feasting on the Word curriculum. It is a lectionary-based curriculum, which means that most weeks, the Sunday School will be working with the same Bible text that is being read in worship. The curriculum is very intentional about connecting education and worship, giving families new tools to help connect Sunday mornings to the rest of the week. Each session addresses four questions: what is important to know about this passage; where is God in these words: so what does this mean for our lives; and now what is God’s word calling us to do? Families whose children are registered for Sunday School will receive a monthly message with information about the coming month’s lessons and ways to connect church to home.
Classes are grouped by age/grade. Groupings are flexible. If you have questions about which class is right for your child, please speak with Ashley Martinage.
Rock Spring celebrates communion on the first Sunday of every month. On those Sundays, children in Preschool through 5th Grade will go to Sunday School as usual, but will return to the Sanctuary to share in communion with their family. All are welcome at the Table.
