I like to think that my musical journey has come full circle. I began at Rock Spring as a child in the Choristers choir, and as a result of being asked years later to come back “and help out,” I’ve been the Director of Music here for over two decades. What a wonderful time it has been! Learning, growing, laughing, teaching, and performing.
After my start with the Choristers, I pursued vocal performance studies at Indiana University where I received both my Bachelor and Master of Vocal Performance degrees.
I was teaching voice privately, as well as teaching choral music in the public schools, when I won the regional Metropolitan National Council Auditions and headed off to New York City for the finals at The Met. I lived in NYC on and off for a few years while I furthered my professional singing career before ultimately settling back in Virginia. These days I round out my professional life of conducting and singing with teaching private voice lessons.
Being a full-time musician is a blessing I could not have imagined when I first entered the sanctuary at Rock Spring as a curious child. My own faith journey would not have happened without the love and faith of the wonderful musicians and community of Rock Spring: my circle certainly feels complete.
