Shirlington Employment and Education Center (SEEC)

We have a strong and growing relationship with the Shirlington Employment and Education Center, known as SEEC, in South Arlington. Fostered by the passion of two of our members, Rock Spring supports SEEC by cooking and serving lunch twice each month and by encouraging members to use the services of the day laborers who are at the heart of SEEC's mission. These day laborers are undocumented workers who are part of a county funded program that encourages job training and education.

Currently, SEEC is able to place these men and women in 200-300 jobs per month. We, and other churches, supply additional support through meals, blankets, monetary gifts, and hiring workers for both on campus needs and as individual members. SEEC also supports a Green House Cleaning program to train women in green cleaning techniques and assist them in finding employment.

If you would like to help prepare or deliver a meal to the workers, we prepare and serve a meal on the second and third Tuesday's of each month. You can sign up when you are at church or you can email Laura Martin (laura@rockspringucc.org) or Shirley Ruhe (slrbc@aol.com).

The past two weeks have certainly brought forth a grim reality, and it appears considerable challenges await us. John 11:35, our scripture verse for the worship service on Sunday, March 29, says it all: “Jesus wept.”
