2019 SAM Grants

Rock Spring Congregational United Church of Christ charges its Board of Social Action and Mission with the responsibility of managing Rock Spring’s Wider Mission budget. This Board will consider 2019 grant applications for purposes that are consistent with Rock Spring’s identity as a Just Peace and an Open and Affirming Congregation and that promote ecumenical and interfaith witness.

Priority consideration is given to applications from:

1. Organizations that not only meet the most basic human needs of our community but that also can benefit from the hands-on involvement of Rock Spring member volunteers
2. Organizations within the Metropolitan Washington, D.C. area, primarily in Arlington and Northern Virginia, that provide assistance to those within our communities least able to help themselves
3. National and international organizations that provide assistance to those least able to help themselves and that have a particular relationship with our congregation or its members
4. Organizations, particularly those associated with the United Church of Christ, working to fulfill our church’s wider mission

Grant applications can request general operating support for the core programs of organization or special projects beyond the organization’s normal budget scope. Grants are not made to individuals. Grant amounts will generally range from $500-$3,000, though larger amounts up to $5,000 may be considered in special circumstances.

Please note that a results-based report of the utilization of grant funds is required. It should address the success relative to the measurements specified.

Grant applications (both the online form and supporting documents) should be submitted no later than July 2, 2019. Applicants will also need to submit copies of their 1) most recent annual budget; 2) IRS Tax determination letter indicating that your organization is a public charity under Section 501(c)(3); 3) Link to online access of your most recent 990 form; and 4) If applicable, a report on the use of the grant extended from Rock Spring last year. You can send these documents to SamGrants@rockspringucc.org, or mail hard copies to:

To guide us as we consider 2019 grant requests, all 2018 grant recipients are asked to provide a brief (1 page) report with their 2019 application about how they used or applied 2018 grant funds.
