Welcoming the Stranger - Mentoring Opportunity

Welcoming the Stranger joyfully announces a great opportunity for Rock Spring adults to help refugee youth excel in their academics and vocations as well as integrate into the community. Drawing on a new grant from the state of Virginia, the goals for this program cover three categories: academic, career, and civic.  By pairing refugee youth ages 15-24 years old with adult volunteers from Rock Spring, participants will receive individualized attention and mentoring.  They will have a support system outside of the resettlement agency, allowing more time and resources to be dedicated to the individual.
There is a lot of flexibility in what time with a refugee youth would entail. It could be looking at how to manage a budget, prepping for a test, touring a college, going to sports tryouts and events, fun and educational events like museums and workshops, and spending time with them to know their hopes and dreams and how we can help them achieve them. Let's get creative!
