November is Native American Heritage Month
October 27, 2021
Rock Spring has a number of ways for you to engage.
Learning & Listening
Learn from this website about Native American Heritage Month, which includes a wide variety of resources, events, and information. Read about the UCC’s repudiation of the Doctrine of Discovery. Explore this mapping tool for a visual of whose land we occupy.
Discussing
Join Rock Spring readers on November 17 to discuss Louise Erdrich’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel, The Night Watchman. The book tells the story of Thomas “Muskrat” Wazhashk and of the Turtle Mountain People during the 1950’s, as the United States government attempted to renege on its treaties and steal Native land.

Giving
The national UCC has made creation care the theme of their 2021 Giving Tuesday campaign, and is contributing 70% of the funds raised to Honor the Earth. The UCC Council for Climate Justice issued a call for churches to give to the campaign, and Rock Spring is amplifying that call by providing a $200 donation now. Honor the Earth uses indigenous wisdom, music, art, and the media to raise awareness and support for Indigenous Environmental Issues. Learn more here.
