“Actionable hope is a belief that what has not yet been can yet be…and we are part of making it real.”
~ Laura Martin
Rock Springers take seriously the command to “love our neighbors as ourselves” and we try to do that in countless ways. Here are some specific ways you can use your voice, arms, hands, feet, and heart to create change.
Help out in Our Community
Protest Events and Actions
Rock Spring is committed to being a strong advocate for immigrants’ rights, racial equity, and social justice. Let us know if you’d like to join our efforts to create a more just world.
Blood Drives
Rock Spring hosts the INOVA bloodmobile on campus several times throughout the year to give our members and friends a convenient place to donate blood and save lives. Up to 186 people can be aided by just 31 donations. Keep an eye on our announcements and weekly emails for upcoming dates and details.
Safe Haven Day Shelter
Join Rock Springers in cooking for 200 + community members who receive a free lunch through the Safe Haven Day Shelter program. Rock Spring helps provides sandwiches, sides, cookies, and more. Volunteers are invited to prepare meals at their homes, which will then be picked up and delivered to recipients. Contact us to find out more.
Shirlington Education and Employment Center (SEEC)
We have a long-standing relationship with SEEC, an organization that facilitates job training and education to undocumented workers. When our campus is open, groups meet twice a month in the Carpenter Hall kitchen to cook hot lunches and deliver them to SEEC workers. We also supply additional support through coats, blankets, monetary gifts, and hiring workers for both on campus needs and as individual members. Contact us to find out more.
Meal Support
If you need meal support or would like to provide meal support to someone in need, please contact our Associate Pastor, Laura Martin, for more information.
Take an Active Role in Worship
Become a Lay Reader
Part of what keeps our services feeling fresh and engaging is the number and variety of people who participate. If you would like to take part in a service by reading a passage of Scripture or leading the Call to Worship, please let us know!
Become a Faith Formation Leader
We have offerings for adults and children of all ages, and we can always use enthusiastic leaders for existing and future programs. Contact us to find out more about how you can share your gifts.
Sing in the Choir
Do you love to sing with others? Our Sanctuary Choir requires no audition, and whether you have sung with choirs in the past, or only in the shower, you will be received with joy! From simple anthems to major works such as Handel’s Messiah, the Sanctuary Choir unites our breath in prayer and song. Contact our Director of Music, Elizabeth Kluegel Niblock, to get started.
Join our Hospitality Team
The Rock Spring “coffee crew” provides hospitality outdoors after worship services. Rock Springers also provide receptions for memorial services and cook meals for special events throughout the year. Contact us to find out more.
