Youth of Rock Spring (YoRS)

All Youth of Rock Spring (Grades 6-12) are invited to join YoRS, a fun fellowship group where we explore how to live out our faith through games, food, sharing, activism, retreats, service, and exploration. We meet on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month, from 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. The groups will begin together in Carpenter Hall with a hearty snack, and then divide into Middlers and High Schoolers for the main program, reconnecting at the end for a time of closure. We hope to expand into our new youth meeting rooms in the very near future!

In addition to our twice-monthly meetings, we engage with youth in a variety of ways:

YoRS Sunday Supper

Throughout the year, Ashley will invite intentionally selected groups of youth to gather for “Sunday Supper.” These informal evenings will give us a chance to talk, share experiences, and make deeper connections among a variety of smaller groupings. Every registered youth will be invited more than once during the year!

YoRS Activists

Part of “being the church” is speaking up for those who are being hurt or discriminated against. Rock Spring’s youth are an informed and engaged bunch, and we know that many of you are looking for opportunities to make your voices heard. Throughout the year, we will offer opportunities for our youth activists to do just that, such as participating in the March for Racial Justice and the DC Pride Parade.

If you are interested in being a YoRS Activist, text or email Ashley (703-447-0873 or to be added to the group.

YoRS in Service

Rock Spring youth know the joy of giving back to their community – and not just to meet service-hour requirements! This year, in addition to service projects in our regular YoRS meetings, we will offer additional service opportunities for those who are interested. We will serve breakfast at a DC Homeless shelter over Christmas break; participate in the MLK Day of Service, and more. Want to offer a suggestion or be the first to know about upcoming opportunities? Text or email Ashley (703-447-0873 or to be added to our YoRS in Service group.

Summer Mission Trip

High school youth are invited to participate in a summer mission trip. Past trips have included home building and repair in West Virginia through organizations like Habitat for Humanity, and a trip to inner-city Baltimore staffing a summer camp for underserved children. Details about the 2018 trip will be posted as they become available.
