Service & Justice

Faith and works, works and faith, fit together hand in glove. — The Letter of James 2 (The Message)

People at Rock Spring take their faith seriously. What we do on Sunday morning connects with what happens at work, at home, and in the world. God's unrelenting love has to be shown in the real life experience of feeding the hungry, giving homes to the homeless, creating safe space for those wounded in body, mind and spirit, and engaging in the struggle for justice. A faith of only words just isn't who we are, a faith that does justice is.

The reality is that I too have

Authored your pain.

I laid a blank piece of paper down

When you needed me to respond.

I chose the shortcut.

I learned complicity,

Learned to move quietly in my privilege,

Learned to let the doors open for me

Before walked inside.

And did not unlearn it.

In fight or flight, I flew.

I confess all this.

And I commit to hearing

The raw stories,

To letting your vulnerability

Chafe me.
