How We Nurture

Rock Spring Church views children’s ministry as something that goes on well beyond Sunday morning. We provide support and nurture for parents and their children through classes, groups and seasonal events. In addition, we work to help parents understand the interaction between faith development and childhood development stages, and how parents can follow up at home with the lessons children learn at church on Sunday. We provide resources to help parents talk with their children about faith, God and the sacred.

We at Rock Spring have a deep respect for every child and what he or she can contribute to our community. We seek to make every child feel welcome—particularly newcomers and those with special needs—and we want to be their advocates. We seek to create a program that is so active and enticing—and free of stress—that every child will look forward to coming to church on Sunday. We want them to have fun while they learn about God’s love and about the sacred. Building relationships with other students and with teachers/helpers is a high priority for us. We also seek to find ways to help each child participate at his or her own level.

Peace Sunday & Unity Walk
Posted: Aug 17 2017 - 11:28am

On September 10 at 10:00 a.m., we will welcome guest preacher Rev. Sid Lovett for a service focused on peace and specifically the important work of the US Institute for Peace. Following worship, join together for a congregational lunch to catch up with the Rock Spring family after the summer. In the afternoon, all are invited to participate in the InterFaith Conference of Metropolitan Washington’s Unity Walk, visiting houses of worship and other religious centers along Massachusetts Avenue in a public celebration of solidarity among different faiths and cultures in our community. More information about the walk is at www.ifcmw.org. Rock Spring has chartered a bus to and from the Unity Walk. To sign up for the bus, go to http://bit.ly/unitybus. There is a suggested donation of $15 to help offset the cost of the bus.

Everyone will have noticed by now a slow-down in the project. This is due to our main contractor, NKB, walking off the job on August 1 and informing us by letter that they could not complete the work.

The reality is that I too have

Authored your pain.

I laid a blank piece of paper down

When you needed me to respond.

I chose the shortcut.

I learned complicity,

Learned to move quietly in my privilege,

Learned to let the doors open for me

Before walked inside.

I inherited fear

And did not unlearn it.

In fight or flight, I flew.

I confess all this.

And I commit to hearing

The raw stories,

To letting your vulnerability

Chafe me.
