How We Nurture

Rock Spring Church views children’s ministry as something that goes on well beyond Sunday morning. We provide support and nurture for parents and their children through classes, groups and seasonal events. In addition, we work to help parents understand the interaction between faith development and childhood development stages, and how parents can follow up at home with the lessons children learn at church on Sunday. We provide resources to help parents talk with their children about faith, God and the sacred.

We at Rock Spring have a deep respect for every child and what he or she can contribute to our community. We seek to make every child feel welcome—particularly newcomers and those with special needs—and we want to be their advocates. We seek to create a program that is so active and enticing—and free of stress—that every child will look forward to coming to church on Sunday. We want them to have fun while they learn about God’s love and about the sacred. Building relationships with other students and with teachers/helpers is a high priority for us. We also seek to find ways to help each child participate at his or her own level.

One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) Offering
Posted: Mar 16 2017 - 12:17pm

The OGHS special mission offering of the United Church of Christ involves you in disaster, refugee/immigration, and development ministries throughout the world. When a disaster strikes or people are displaced or made refugees, you are part of the immediate response and of the long-term recovery. Through OGHS you engage in holistic development programs including health care, education, agriculture, food sustainability, micro-financing, and women’s empowerment.  You meet immediate needs and you address the underlying causes that create those needs in the first place. Rock Spring will formally accept the offering in worship on March 26, but contributions can be made throughout the month to Rock Spring via check with OGHS in the memo line, online through the church’s website, or via Givelify app with designation Special Offering - OGHS.

A Rock Spring tradition is to decorate the sanctuary with spring flowers for Easter Sunday.

by Laura Martin

The reality is that I too have

Authored your pain.

I laid a blank piece of paper down

When you needed me to respond.

I chose the shortcut.

I learned complicity,

Learned to move quietly in my privilege,

Learned to let the doors open for me

Before walked inside.

I inherited fear

And did not unlearn it.

In fight or flight, I flew.

I confess all this.

And I commit to hearing

The raw stories,

To letting your vulnerability

Chafe me.
