Confirmation Class

Date:
Starting 9/20/16
Location:
Room 205

Confirmation is a year-long exploration of faith. It is a chance for young people to engage with questions about their own beliefs, as well as to learn more about our faith and that of others. At the end of the year, participants have an opportunity to decide whether or not to join as members of Rock Spring. This year’s confirmation class will be led by Ashley Martinage, with assistance from Wayne Limberg, Kathy Dwyer, and others. We meet approximately twice a month on Tuesday evenings, beginning the week of September 18. In addition, we will take several “field trips” to engage in other worship experiences. Each participant will be paired with an adult “conversation partner,” a member of the congregation who will join them on their faith journey. All students in 9th-12th grade who have not previously joined Rock Spring are welcome in the class. Please contact Ashley Martinage (ashley@rockspringucc.org) for more information.

Everyone will have noticed by now a slow-down in the project. This is due to our main contractor, NKB, walking off the job on August 1 and informing us by letter that they could not complete the work.

On September 10 at 10:00 a.m., we will welcome guest preacher Rev. Sid Lovett for a service focused on peace and specifically the important work of the US Institute for Peace. Following worship, join together for a congregational lunch to catch up with the Rock Spring family after the summer.

The reality is that I too have

Authored your pain.

I laid a blank piece of paper down

When you needed me to respond.

I chose the shortcut.

I learned complicity,

Learned to move quietly in my privilege,

Learned to let the doors open for me

Before walked inside.

I inherited fear

And did not unlearn it.

In fight or flight, I flew.

I confess all this.

And I commit to hearing

The raw stories,

To letting your vulnerability

Chafe me.
