Spring 2010: Announcing the first OWL Grades 10-12 Course

A new Our Whole Lives / Sexuality and Our Faith (OWL) class is forming for Spring 2010! The class is open to all youth who are in grades 10, 11 and 12. Participants do NOT need to be members of Rock Spring; friends are welcome and encouraged to join the course. There is a $40 fee for the class, which includes continental breakfast, as well as materials for the class. Scholarships are available by contacting the OWL Leaders; all scholarship requests will be kept confidential. If you are planning to enroll siblings, please talk to the OWL Leaders about a reduced fee.

There is a Parents’ Orientation Session on March 21st, from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM.  This session is mandatory for parents/caregivers of youth who will be participating in the OWL program.  Registration and payment for the course will be due at this time.

Course leaders are Iris Gibson, Mike Slagenweit-Coffman and Christina Fairman.  All are certified OWL Leaders for Grades 7-9 and Grades 10-12.  Iris teaches Middle High Sunday School at Rock Spring (although she’ll be taking an extended break to teach the OWL program this spring).  Mike is a pastoral intern at Rock Spring and currently attends seminary at Wesley Theological Seminary.  Christina is a member of the OWL Team, which oversees the OWL program at Rock Spring, and is also a certified Leader for OWL Grades K-1 and Grades 4-6.

The class will be eight sessions long, and attendance and active participation are expected at all sessions. Classes will be held on Sunday mornings from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM on the following dates: April 11, April 18, April 25, May 2, May 9, May 16, May 23 and June 6.  Classes will not meet on Sunday, May 30, due to the Memorial Day holiday.

Mike, Iris and Christina can be reached at highschoolowl@rockspringucc.org and are happy to answer questions and provide more information about the Spring 2010 OWL Grades 10-12 course.  If you have questions about the OWL program in general or questions about offerings for other ages, please contact the OWL Team at owl@rockspringucc.org
