Rock Spring Summer Schedule

The church office will begin a new operating schedule beginning August 1^st. Our hours will be:

Monday – Thursday: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Closed on Fridays.

Rev. Hank Fairman will be on vacation from July 26 – August 15.

Rev. Janet Parker will be on vacation from August 17 – September 1

Backpacks and School Supplies for Shaw Community Ministry

Inner-city kids (K – 12) in the Shaw area of DC need our help in preparing for school in the fall. Please bring new (or gently used) backpacks to the bin outside the Saegemuller Room now through August 16. School supplies would also be helpful. Complete list at the bin, but includes: filler paper, binders, spiral notebooks, folders, dividers, composition books, rulers, gently used scientific calculators. When you shop for the first day of school, consider picking up a second backpack and/or set of supplies. Questions? Contact Susan Johnson or Julie Aamoth.

Lay readers/liturgists wanted

Are you interested in being a Lay Reader/Liturgist for our church? If so, we are now seeking volunteers for the Sunday services from September 5 thru June 26, 2011. We need volunteers for both the 9am and 11am services. The duties involve helping to read parts of the Sunday service as well as the first Scripture lesson. Each week the lead minister emails the liturgy and reading by about mid-week; so you receive them with plenty of time to “rehearse” if you wish. If you are interested, please email Deacon Mark Buchholz and let him know if you prefer the 9:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. service or if you have no preference (preferred), and if there are any dates you cannot volunteer. We will accept offers to volunteer up until the evening of Monday August 9. A final list will be distributed shortly thereafter.

Shirlington Employment and Education Center Lunch

On Saturday, July 17, at 11 am, Rock Spring will provide lunch for 35-40 day laborers at Shirlington Employment and Education Center.

Need:

35-50 soft drinks
Tortillas
40 bananas
Meat-ham for 40
35-50 soft drinks
Sandwiches

Everything will be done at my house on Friday, 16 July-any time from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Need 3 people to help. If you can help, please contact Ann Rudd. Have to make sandwiches and put chips and cookies into baggies.

Friday, July 9th, Lunch with Kathy and Dale Dwyer

Converse with Kathy and Dale Dwyer over lunch. Although this event is hosted by the monthly Men’s Lunch Group, it is open to all Rock Springers regardless of gender. Participants pay for their own meal. Location: Mylo’s Grill, 6238 Old Dominion Drive, McLean (in the Chesterbrook Shopping Center) RSVP – For further information, ask Emory Hackman, or please RSVP to him by email (preferred) or by telephone so that we can ensure adequate seating at the restaurant. Lectionary Study Change from Tuesday, July 6 to Thursday, July 8

Rev. Kathy Dwyer will conduct the Lectionary Study during the week leading up to “Candidate Sunday.” In order to do that the Study will change from Tuesday, July 6 to Thursday, July 8 at 10:00 a.m. in the Saegmuller Room. All are welcome. Lectionary Study returns to its normal schedule on Tuesday, July 13 at 10:00 a.m. in the Saegmuller Room.

All members of Rock Spring Congregational UCC are hereby called to a Meeting of the Congregation on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at 11:15 AM in the Sanctuary. Child care will be available during the meeting.

1. Receive and act upon the recommendation of the Senior Pastor Search Committee to Call Rev. Dr. Kathryn N. Dwyer as Senior Pastor.

Summer Sunday School

During the summer months our Sunday School classrooms include PreK-1st grade, located on the 1st floor of the Hunter Building; 2nd-5th grade and Middle School, located on the 2nd floor of the Hunter building. Grades represent current (2009-2010) school year; however, parents are welcome to choose the class that best meets your child’s needs. Please email the Christian Ed. Board at the address below if you have any questions or comments.

The PreK-1st grade class is still seeking teachers for the following dates: July 18, July 25, August 2 and 30. If you are able to assist for one or more of these dates please email christianed@rockspringucc.org.
