Title:  Watering the Garden: Release, Restore, Rebuild

Text:  “…and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters never fail. Your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to live in." (Isaiah 58:11b-12)

“Genuine faith includes both a center and an edge; each is necessary for the soul's health."(Barbara Brown Taylor, Leaving Church)

The ancient prophet Isaiah speaks clairvoyantly to our times, our anxieties, and our deepest desires for reconciliation and restoration.  We will explore scripture, contemporary spiritual thinking, and our own faithful edges to nourish “our soul’s health” and our world’s needs.  Join us for a wondrous time of laughter, self-reflection and faithful engagement as we seek together to become “the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to live in.”

Rock Spring’s annual women’s retreat will be held March 10-12 at the Carter Hall Conference Center and led by Rev. Kathleen Kline Moore.  Kathleen served Rock Spring as an Interim Associate Minister from 2001 - 2003.  She mostly served for 13 years as the Senior Pastor of First Christian Church in Falls Church. Prior to becoming an ordained minister Kathleen was a professional modern dancer working with a modern dance company. She is married to Rock Spring member Allen Moore and she has three grown children.

The retreat is limited to 41 participants staying on site, so act quickly.  The cost for the whole weekend is $280 for double-occupancy rooms.  (All single occupancy rooms are claimed.)  If you’re set on a single room, there are B&Bs in the area that could provide a way to participate while still having your desired accommodations.  We are planning on holding a self-hosted wine and cheese (and more) supper on Friday evening with the rest of the meals being provided by Carter Hall. In addition to your room, your regisration fee includes:

  • Lunch and dinner on Saturday
  • Breakfast on Sunday
  • Beverage breaks

You have the option of coming after 5:00 p.m. on Friday and staying overnight on both Friday and Saturday nights ($280), or you may stay only on Saturday night ($220). Cut off for registration and payment is Feb 22You may click here to pay online, make payment through the Givelify app, or you may pay by check. Checks should be made out to Rock Spring UCC with Women’s Retreat in the memo line.

Latest News

Everyone will have noticed by now a slow-down in the project. This is due to our main contractor, NKB, walking off the job on August 1 and informing us by letter that they could not complete the work.

On September 10 at 10:00 a.m., we will welcome guest preacher Rev. Sid Lovett for a service focused on peace and specifically the important work of the US Institute for Peace. Following worship, join together for a congregational lunch to catch up with the Rock Spring family after the summer.

The reality is that I too have

Authored your pain.

I laid a blank piece of paper down

When you needed me to respond.

I chose the shortcut.

I learned complicity,

Learned to move quietly in my privilege,

Learned to let the doors open for me

Before walked inside.

I inherited fear

And did not unlearn it.

In fight or flight, I flew.

I confess all this.

And I commit to hearing

The raw stories,

To letting your vulnerability

Chafe me.
