Everyone is Welcome Here

Beliefs and Philosophy

The Rock Spring congregation has taken to heart the United Church of Christ’s “God is Still Speaking” initiative.  We are a place that “wherever you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.”

We also profess as central to our life as a congregation the Great Commandment attributed to Jesus:

He answered, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” Luke 10:27

Our congregation understands the importance of each person in our community finding support in developing their spiritual self and religious understanding, and in having a community to which to turn at life’s decisive and difficult moments.

The Rock Spring community features a range of worship, devotional, study, caring, action and small group ministries and programs involving our professional staff and hundreds of volunteers. As a progressive Christian congregation, we recognize that we must work as a body to care for ourselves and our neighbors as called by the Spirit, and that to our developing understanding of that call will continue to present us with new opportunities for service.

Rock Spring invites newcomers to join us in hearing and acting on the call of our still-speaking God.

The Rock Spring Covenant

Following the tradition of the congregational churches, the Church Covenant is the promise binding the members of the church in common mission:

We are united in striving to know the will of God as taught in the Holy Scriptures, and in our purpose to walk in the ways of the Lord, made known or to be made known to us.

We hold it to be the mission of the Church of Christ to proclaim the gospel to all people, exalting the worship of the one true God and laboring for the progress of knowledge, the promotion of justice, the reign of peace, and the realization of our one human family.

Depending, as did our forebears, upon the continued guidance of the Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth, we work and pray for the transformation of the world into the Kingdom of God; and we look with faith for the triumph of righteousness and the life everlasting.

It's better to give than receive but the best givers are good receivers. Otherwise giving is one-sided and leads to resentment. We act as though others need us more than we need them and miss what they have to give. […]
